Right belief is the first branch of the Buddhists' Eightfold Path leading to deliverance; the root and primal cause of bondage is wrong belief, or ignorance - an ignorance, let us remember, which is never completely invincible, but always, in the last analysis, a matter of will. If we don't know, it is because we find it more convenient not to know. Original ignorance is the same thing as original sin.
