The Narcissist
Meet the narcissist, always seeking more
The needs of others they will ignore
Constant acknowledgment they crave
Consuming greedily everything you gave
Be it time, money, care or attention
Draining you totally is their intention
Indifferent to torments they create
Your inner strength they will berate
Causing pain without hesitation
Your suffering is their exaltation
Abusing every vulnerability you show
All of your weaknesses they know
Destroying self-worth and stability
Belittling you, disturbing tranquility
To them your emotions are a game
Everyone else but themself is to blame
Disagreements escalated and inflamed
If you protest, you should be ashamed
When confronted, having handy excuses
That poor victim accountability refuses
Would rather point the finger and deflect
Than consult own conscience and reflect
Yet contempt is not always their mode of operation
They can be quite charming and induce elation
Being nice only when when it's advantageous
Everybody loves them, it's outrageous
That in private they are cold, malicious
Of friendship and kindness suspicious
Doubtful scheming, mistrust and opposition
Conversation is a battlefield, careful tactician
Severely injured by impartial deviation
Of a misplaced word or lack of ovation
For the narcissist knows that they are better
Than all the feeling peasants in the gutter
Disturbing that belief swiftly kindles rage
That the wise learn to avoid and disengage
Run full speed in the opposite direction
Free yourself, sever the connection
